An intergenerational family connection at Brambles

In Queensland, Rob Jones and his granddaughter, Taylor Chattin, share more than just a family bond – they share a legacy of dedication and growth at CHEP Australia, a proud Brambles brand.

Rob, Service Centre Manager at Queensland’s Meeandah and one of CHEP Australia’s longest serving employees, took a leap of faith in 1978 when he joined CHEP.

“I didn’t know anything about pallets and had no connection to the industry. I was 16 at the time. Although I was short, I decided to give this opportunity at CHEP a shot,” Rob recalled.

He has seen the business change and evolve over the years.

“Walking into Rocklea Service Centre for the first time was a ‘wow’ moment for me that I will never forget. The technology and automation they had back then blew my mind.”

Rob’s love for his job and dedication inspired his granddaughter to follow in his footsteps.

“The proudest moment of my career was when Taylor started working for CHEP. I never realised the influence I had on her. I would bring her in often and when we used to have Christmas parties at the site it was a highlight. She loved coming into work meeting my friends and learning about what I did at work.”

Taylor began her journey with CHEP in 2022 as a Sales Administrator at the Rochedale Service Centre. Today, she is a Telephone Account Manager – Protein and Industrial, continuing a family tradition that spans generations. Her uncle, Michael Duncombe, also began his career at CHEP in 1982.

“I still remember the anticipation of not knowing what to expect, but at the same time thrilled to finally be working at CHEP,” said Taylor.

Working alongside her grandfather is more than just a professional experience – it’s deeply personal for Taylor.

“He raised me, and I used to see him walk back into the house from work and even taking me to family days at Meeandah. I have always been fascinated by his work and as a young girl growing up, I loved it. It is hard not to mention, but I wouldn’t be at CHEP if it wasn’t for him. His values align with mine, so I knew I would enjoy it if he did.”

Rob and Taylor’s story is a testament to how inspiration and values can be passed down through generations, shaping not only careers but lives.
