Objectives & targets

Protect and manage ~75,000 hectares over five years

Key achievements

Work commenced across 10,000 hectares during FY26

Future outlook

Supporting biodiversity, resilient landscapes, employment opportunities and long-term sustainability of timber supply and forests

In the globally significant landscape and critical water source of the Upper uThukela catchment in the Northern Drakensberg, Brambles has entered a new strategic partnership with WildTrust. This partnership aims to protect and manage ~75,000 hectares over five years, contributing to our target to regenerate two hectares of land for every one required for our timber needs.1

Work began in FY26 across 10,000 hectares2, prioritising conservation and improvements in land management. This project is linked to our productive sourcing landscapes via shared water systems and biodiversity corridors. It illustrates how the integrated approach of Forest Positive initiatives can enhance the ecosystems that support our business operations.

By investing in land management throughout the broader catchment area, the Upper uThukela project aims to develop more resilient landscapes and support the longer-term sustainability of timber supply and forests. It also conserves existing valuable ecosystems and their biodiversity while generating direct conservation employment opportunities for the community through nature-based activities.

As we expand the programme’s activities over the coming years, we will continue to count a growing portion of this land against our regeneration target.

1

For the purpose of this target, regeneration consists of initiatives that enable restoration, conservation or sustainable management.

2

These 10,000 hectares are recognised as the FY26 progress against the second hectare pillar of our target to regenerate two hectares of land for every one required.
